I rang Jarden Direct, waited 20 minutes, and still could not be connected to the staff to place/cancel orders.

I just got notified on the Jarden Direct portal that everything is moving to Hatch on 1 Feb 2025. Keen for comments from the group on this and any ramifications please.

Same here. Everything about Hatch on a google is for trading foreign shares. Zilch on NZ trading.

Minimal information provided by Jardens. Not surprising.

My cash accounts will be empty by end of January.

No joint accounts at Hatch and they only offer US listed stocks and ETF's directly. NZ and Aussie are Via Jarden. Is that coreect? Seems bizarre

This was hatched a while ago huh, but has now moved forward. At first I thought this reminded me of when the Body Corporates (of which I was chair) building manager told us he was selling his business to someone else and I thought you cheeky ass, we appointed you - you cant sell us to another, but of course he could and either went with it , or not and got a new one.

Jardens are a broker and they dont have to provide us with a web interface to manage (and trade) our portfolio. Historically full service brokers never provided this. So clearly its not profitable separately and they just want to focus on doing deals, not backroom stuff. OK I guess and it's the same as my building manager selling off his clients - he was an ex lawyer, and a good property manager but I never liked lawyers much and this didn't help lol. (Irrelevant aside even now just doing a pretty simple pre nup agreement (opting out of Relationship Property Act) is being so overcomplicated by a lawyer that its costing heaps! I mean how hard is it say that we both agree there will never be any relationship property ??)

Anyway, re Jarden, yes it is an important decision not to be taken too lightly , we now would be trusting Hatch with our cash funds - though not like Sharesies where you're ultimately trusting them with your shares as well. Of course Hatch will place them in a separate trust fund etc but do we trust Hatch? That's why 777 will withdraw funds before the changeover. I mean Jarden have a history, a name , a reputation in this industry, Who TF are Hatch??? !! Why should we trust them with our cash holdings? We can of course do some research but trust is earned huh. I'll probably not go there , or at least withdraw all the cash and then it wont matter much at all and just as now I could sell through another broker if I choose.

Edit further emotive thoughts - its a bit of a fork you innit? Bound to lose heaps of customers and surely they know that so the retail must be losing money at least as far as the web interface aspect and possibly even the full retail broking business. Things have changed a lot , it has become hard to clip the ticket of the little guy as technology commoditises every product and service. Sharesies must have dented retail broking badly. (And is itself I believe still around break even despite volte facing on its very cheap fees)

My understanding that it is quite difficult to legally agree to not have relationship property included. Something to do with pre-nups are often not enforced if it is deemed that one party has agreed to something that is less beneficial to them than no agreement at all. Pre-nups here are not as rock solid as in the US. eg You cannot marry a woman half your age, with no assets, and get her to agree she gets nothing in the event of a divorce. The NZ courts are unlikely to enforce the agreement.
