You have the ukraine thing since brexit and to a lesser extent the pandemic. I think people can see the benefit of being in a larger grouping considering the unpredictable and scary world out there.

The Netherlands is a member of NATO and is not an ex-Soviet Republic with a long shared border with Putin. The EU is also finding it difficult to maintain a common approach towards Russia, Palestine/Israel etc. as a result of the divergence of opinions amongst member states.
