    Default Dow 40,000

Dow 40,000! How is everyone celebrating tonight?

I've got some serious weeding to do today. My garden needs a real tidy up and I've been putting it off. But after that it's "me time".

I'll light some candles and enjoy a long soak in the bath, maybe read a Jazz mag or two depending on how I feel.

Guys we did it. We held on, and now we're rich as fcuk.

    Congratulations everyone.

I have heard so many times that markets can go up with wall of worry. That’s the one reason for me to invest in quality stocks when they are very attractive and when there are worries and keep them for a long period. Those who invested in DOW (quality stocks) definitely will celebrate after hitting 40,000. After some time, whenever when a stock price or an index hit certain prices, they tend to go up further until it reaches the top. IMO market is going to top before the main pull back or bear market.

    Quite right, Valuegrowth.

Interestingly the DOW has outperformed the S&P500 over the last 50 years. Jeremy Siegel has the low down:

My US shares are pretty much 70 per cent cent S&P500 and 30 percent VTV along with other value bits and pieces. The value tilt means I'm claiming DOW 40,000 as a personal victory.

    My congratulations!

They say stay with the place you know very well and businesses that you can understand. That’s what I am doing exactly now. So far my performance is better than performance of DOW over the last 3 years as I rebalanced periodically by adding strong ones, cutting weak ones, and buying and selling few commodity related stocks.

I have his book called “stocks for the long run” and planning to reread after my retirement not very far away. IMO there is a high chance for weakness in the USA market along with weakness in the USD in 2025.

Hell, I remember in 1972 or was it 1973, ( 72 I think ) when it crossed the 1000 mark, gold at that time was pegged @ US $28/oz and I witnessed when it was released from the U S peg !!

    Brilliant, what great memories Whatsup.

A veteran watcher of markets. Not too many people in NZ would have appreciated those moments.

After the recent sell-off, DOW recovered and claimed back 40,000. Passed 41000 as well. IMO this is going to be the final stage of the current major uptrend.

Looking at the "magic numbers" it's like being in an echo chamber time warp bubble trap. Back at the turn of the century the assumption/prediction/forecast was 100,000 by 2020. . .
