I have money with Platinum. Not necessarily a great fan of funds but Platinum have treated me OK over the past 8 years or so. They don't pay trail commissions to brokers so are therefore out of favour with them.
Platinum: lakclustre performance over the past three years or so This is possibly the result of having become almost unmanageable size-wise (especially the International Fund). I wouldn't put money in it.
US50: hefty fees will make it underperform the indices that attempts to follow. After reading the brochure some time ago, I don't really know the reputation of the management/sponsoring company. If I wanted to bet on an US index, I would buy directly an ETF through a broker and pay less overall fees.
I have invested in the Platinum International fund since April 2002. The return has been 50% in that time, which I think is ok. I am however starting to think my money would be better else where. I like the Hunter Hall sweet of managed funds.
Anyone any comments?
