Currency trading question?

I have never traded in currency before, and dont intend to in the near furture.

I have one question though, is it as simple as going online with your bank, buying some say (US Dollars) with your NZ dollars, in your account, then when the NZ dollar drops, exchanging them back to NZ dollars.

Are you allowed to do that???

That's the way that I did it back in the early 90's. Used Trustbank who had forex denominated savings accounts.
