    Default Results of Experiment

Some of you seem to have some talent at this :o

Okay, here are the results of the completed TA experiment...

Method: Take one charting incompetent with a basic, but distrustful, knowledge of charting (i.e. me), and complete another full sample of 20 sets of 20 consecutive trades while actually TRYING to make sense of the charts. (Don't count skipped trades and use default settings).

    Results:
(Apart from an overwhelming desire to fall asleep whenever staring at the charts)
    Max: $511,977
    Min: $ 19,503
No. positive outcomes: 14 of 20
    Average: $148,602
    Std dev: $108,180

Overall, compared with control data, it looks as though I did gain some advantage from reading the charts, despite their obvious limitations.

Did I get any better with practice? I thought I was, but the data suggests I just tended to get less variable, with best and worst results occurring early on. I did find that I skipped more trades as time went on - especially the ones I found held a risk of large fall - the long term trends that had run for more than 100% up; trading after a short sharp move that had not had time to consolidate. Also, found myself looking harder for volume on break-outs.

In reality, slippage and brokerage would eat into things a bit. However, the biggest problem with implementing alongside my normal FA is the number of charts I rated "skip"... between the two systems, I might never find anything to buy!
