Default market affected by election results?

Just curious, and haven't looked through any historical info yet, but wondering whether there is any predictable effect on the sharemarket (NZ) following the election, depending on who becomes the govt?

If national wins markets will rise slightly. If labour wins markets will trend down. The more important factor is not the election but what the outcome of the debt crisis is overseas. 2012 is the crunch year so keep your finger near the panic button my friend. Macdunk

Labour cant win tomorrow - they can only "not lose", and the resulting weeks of uncertainty, negotiation and shenanigans would weigh fairly heavily on markets and the dollar i'd say.

how would you like to "win" an election with much fewer seats than last time and deeply in hock to the Greens, the Mana Party (Hone Harawira) and NZ First (Winston Peters) ?

Sounds like cruel and unusual punishment that most politicians would avoid.
