Well yesterday morning I received an email from myself.?
"I hacked your device, because I sent you this message from your a/c. etc etc.Would share my history of abnormal porn sites visits."
Demanded US $659 in bitcoin within 48 hours..
On Netsafe's advice I changed my email password.

At least they didn't say "Would share my history of abnormal share trader site visits."

Was about to log into my westpac today and noticed there was no lock symbol, otherwise it looked identical, that was a close shave!

Have you advised Westpac? They would email all customers if they know about it, and it's a threat.

    Good question peat.
I always either use my own saved shortcut or put it in manually

I put it in manually . Have received emails purporting to be from Westpac before too in the past. Westpac do have pretty sophisticated anti phishing/fraud systems . Last time i clicked on a "westpac"email i got a red warning that it was a scam. This warning alert may well have triggered today too.Have told westpac in the past about this and they are very confident in their systems. Contacted them today twice, first time a useless learner bot 2nd one thanking me for my email and i will get an answer within 4 days.

From ASB's latest results (6% increase NPAT). On to it to counter the growing scams attacks.

"During the half-year, ASB screened more than 700 million transactions to combat money laundering and financial crime. Additionally, the Bank introduced the compulsory identification of cash depositors to prevent the laundering of financial crime proceeds. Over the same six-month period, ASB sent more than half a million messages via the ASB Mobile app to customers warning them about the latest scams and phishing attacks. The Bank has also alerted more than 4,000 individual customers to suspicious international card transactions."

Watch out for James West from "Angel Investment Network' but "from an office in Hong Kong"

Alleging pre IPO shares in Air BNB and other shares.

Must be my lucky day.Had a ring from "IRD" 048893545 to tell me I'll be locked up if I don't pay my tax. Hmmm, but sounded like a badly recorded message.
I phoned the IRD to ask when they wanted me locked up and gave them the phone number.
They will pass it on to their fraud team.
Try the number if you want to check your status
