I didn't much about today with that ladder strategy. Got stuck in and nearly doubled my holding and happy to buy more on any untoward future weakness...have heaps of dry powder.

Its crystal clear to me that Oil, gas and LPG are going to be in chronically short supply in the years ahead and I think the market is dramatically undervaluing the value of GNE's stake in Kupe. Why ? Because its not cool and is not ESG friendly, just as Huntly isn't cool either.
Ask me if I care when I get next years 8.7% gross dividend yield

Yes...bought a few XOM ~18 months ago. Decent dividend and I just can't see us not needing oil / gas over the next 20+ years.

Isn't Genesis a dividend trap, their payout ratio is consistently > 100% and at the moment is 278.4%

That payout ratio is probably calculated using NPAT. A more useful metric for GNE is payout ratio of free cash flow, as NPAT is artificially reduced by depreciation of assets to reduce tax bills. (I think)

Surely this will be part of their resource consent? Thus, attached to their bottom line?

That said, I cannot ever see them decommissioning. I mean, what other true base load generation do we have?
