Ask me if I care when I get next years 8.7% gross dividend yield
Yes...bought a few XOM ~18 months ago. Decent dividend and I just can't see us not needing oil / gas over the next 20+ years.

I listened to Beagle, thought he was talking a lot of sense and had a wee top up this morning.

Isn't Genesis a dividend trap, their payout ratio is consistently > 100% and at the moment is 278.4%

That payout ratio is probably calculated using NPAT. A more useful metric for GNE is payout ratio of free cash flow, as NPAT is artificially reduced by depreciation of assets to reduce tax bills. (I think)

Thanks for this. I was confused as they still had significant free cash flow ($233,400,000) after dividends are paid

Out of idle curiosity, who will wear the cost of decommissioning and remediating Genesis' Huntly site when it's eventually closed

Surely this will be part of their resource consent? Thus, attached to their bottom line?

That said, I cannot ever see them decommissioning. I mean, what other true base load generation do we have?

Bit condescending of them to add the 'complementing the diversity of thought' bit
