Out of idle curiosity, how are RUCs determined for diesel cars at the moment? Simple speedo reading by rate or what?

Because I have a sneaking suspicion that modern “software-driven” vehicles are probably going to be smart enough to self-report

For passenger vehicles it's just the odometer reading and you buy km's in blocks of 1000. You need to pay for and display the label with the band (min/max) and your odometer needs to be between those two readings. It's slightly more complex for commercial/HT as the vehicle/trailers may have significant periods of off-road usage (RUC's don't apply here) and some vehicles have dynamic loading so you can modify the configuration when it's unloaded to reduce your RUC rate. A neat example of this was on a newly delivered multi axle truck (it was a hiab crane truck with a long flat bed) it had an axle that can be raised off the road when the extra load capacity isn't required.

A simpler example of minimisation of charges is when you see empty logging trucks that are carrying their trailer on the back of the truck instead of towing it.

These scenarios are where E-road can be really effective, it's been a while since I was in that industry but essentially it geolocates you for on/off road and I think you can also hook it up to your trailer/vehicle control to account for weight or axle changes.

Share price has steadily drifted lower here since the start of 2024. The market has lost faith/confidence since last year's suitor was summarily dispatched.

The Cortex acquisition doesn't yet seem to have been transformational in the US market, perhaps hence the dual CEO status recently announced to give more focus to that jurisdiction in particular.

Holders ( like me, having reinstated a position) will clearly need patience, and evidence real progress is being made, before the tide might turn.

As share price drifts down to cap raise price of 70 cents again one wonders what Board response would this time around if another offer came in.

Prob reject it again …as the new capital being put to good use and company on fire …yeah right

Dual CEO presentation avaliable here if anyone missed it. Mrs Chair says Netflix also has co-ceos so it's a proven model

Thanks for sharing. Talking as if Eroad's competitors don't have access to the same AI technology they have.

Market seems to be giving ERD a modest rerate just now. Close at 87c yesterday, up from 82c, and today finished at 91c.

Perhaps a ray of sunshine amid the gloom?

A quick quote from one of Bernard Hickey's blog post emails. . .

"Transport: The Government is considering calls to put electronic monitoring devices in all vehicles to apply user charges at different rates per kilometre for travelling on different roads at different times in vehicles with different weights. "

In the unlikely event that anything ever comes out of this, I'd suspect that eRoad could be well positioned to retrofit a few million little trackers into the national vehicle fleet.
