    Default Investment tracking software

    Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend some investment tracking software that works in NZ? It doesn't need to be overly complicated - I'm just looking for something that can calculate my rate of return. As I make weekly contributions to my investments, its time consuming to calculate the return myself.

My only investments are on Milford and Asb Securities so the software would have to support them both.

    Thanks.

You will have a trading account with someone/somewhere, they should have a webpage that displays your personal portfolio.
It should have "Basic info" on it like..
    Quantity_Held
    Cost_Price
    Cost_Value
    Market_Price
    Market_Value
    Unrealised_Profit_or_Loss
% display to show movement Up or Down

You can use/create spreadsheets. If you have Microsoft Office use Excel, if you dont have Microsoft then either Open-Office or Libre-Office are good, They are Free products that you download and install. (Open Source). There are lots of online tutorials for using these and creating your own formulas and calculations.

Comprehensive programs to analyze trends etc are available, you may or may not want to take that step

I setup a SSheet with a few formulas. Seems to work. Most important formula is the CAGR. Just Google it and add.

Bonus is that its free and offline.

Take a look at sharesight.co.nz - free version supports NZX and NZ funds and it has some great reporting features including for tax return prep.

Hi Mp52, thanks for that I have signed up with sharesight. I do wonder how they calculate their performance though. I have used the share checker just to compare share sight performance with other websites and they both don't give the same result.

I use sharesight and it is very good. They have two ways to calculate returns which I think is compounded and non compounded - it is explained in the settings. I would expect it to be more accurate, esp if you are buying and selling the same share since it will be using actual s, incl dividends and imputation etc.

Note the free version is only if you hold 10 or less stocks at a time, though it will remember more if you have sold them.

    Hi Harvey,

Yeah I tried using both methods but the share sight returns still slightly differed from those on reputable websites.

Send them an email. They will reply very quickly in my experience.
