“After arguing that ‘the strong should not bully the weak’, Xi should examine his own government’s threats and punitive sanctions levelled against Australia and other countries that have dared to criticise his authoritarian regime,” the Alliance said.

It's not fair to say China bully Australia. It's Australia itself conducted wrongdoing, especially ban Huawei from the rollout of 5G network. Aussie is the first country to ban Huawei in the world, even before US. Aussie used the excuse for national security reason, but Aussie has widely used Huawei for 4G network equipment and hasn't identified any security issues.
I wonder why Australia likes to directly confront China, why it doesn't learn some strategies from NZ. Our Andrew Little said " we welcome all 5G equipment suppliers, including Huawei." But in fact, both Spark and Vodafone chose Nokia.

I personally agree with you Lease on the Huawei question and have written about it here and in a couple of overseas newspapers (SCMP, and Financial Times). I personally believe directly attacking Huawei and other commercial entities is a step too far as we try and maintain a multilateral trading system and reduce the risk of war by increasing international cooperation with China (in a risk calculated way) rather than reducing it as the US demanded.
Not one security risk has been demonstrated in over 20 years in the UK (it would be commercial suicide to do so) and although the way 5G works is very different from 3G & 4G and essentially they are all software products with multiple layers of risk etc regardless of the vendor, my personal belief is that the US should out-compete China, not try to destroy their leading company and hobble their chip manufacturing sector.
However on the question of human rights and democracy in Hong Kong I draw the line at any attempt by the CCP to claim moral equivalence with the West.

The NZ security bureau identified a significant network security risk with Huawei proposal for Spark and did not allow it to use it in their 5G rollout.

US must set up joint command with Taiwan, now: analyst
China and Taiwan expert Stephen Bryen says Pentagon needs to act to avoid a potential crisis

Excerpt:
The study by the United States Study Center, at the University of Sydney, in Australia, warned that America’s defense strategy
in the Indo-Pacific region “is in the throes of an unprecedented crisis” and could struggle to defend its allies against China.
That means Australia, Japan and other US partners need to build up and refocus their forces in the region,
and consider increased cooperation with the US, to ensure their security, the study claimed.
