The refugees out of the Ukraine are all women and children. The men have stayed to fight. From what I have read that is not the case out of Syria and the Middle East in general where many of the refugees were young males. That is a significant difference. Helping to keep women and children safe while the men fight for their country is a compelling argument

The composition of refugees may be different. That would certainly affect the willingness of people to welcome them into their homes. The journey from the Ukraine border to its neighbours is, by and large, less hazardous. Not all refugees from Ukraine are women and children. Women and men join in the defence of their country.
